Anglo-Caribbean House, Gulf Stream, FL

New Construction

The owner, a coalmining industrialist, was affiliated with the University of Virginia and had a strong affection for the work of Thomas Jefferson.

This influenced our decisions in the design of this house, which incorporates loggias, occuli, corner porches, Chippendale style fretwork, octagonal shapes and other conscious quotations from Monticello and other buildings by Jefferson. Approaching from the south side, one enters the corner pavilion porch and passes along the loggia before reaching the elliptical-arched entrance at the center.
