2009 Palladio Award Winner for Renovation of a house in Palm Beach, FL

We won a Palladio Award, sponsored by Traditional Building and Period Homes magazine. The award is named in honor of Andrea Palladio, the Renaissance architect who created modern architecture for his time while using models from the past for inspiration and guidance.

Palladio gained his first design experiences in Padua as a stonecutter in the sculpture workshop of Bartolomeo Cavazza da Sossano, who is said to have imposed particularly hard working conditions. After running away to Vincenza, Palladio became an assistant in the Pedemuro studio, a leading workshop of stonecutters and masons. The Palladio Awards Program is designed to honor outstanding achievement in traditional design. Our winning entry was a renovation of an estate in Palm Beach, originally designed by the acclaimed Palm Beach architect, John Volk. The award recognizes individual designers whose work enhances the beauty and humane qualities of the built environment through creative interpretation or adaptation of design principles developed through 2,500 years of the Western architectural tradition.
